          Academic Career

          Broecker began his academic career as an assistant professor of geology at Columbia University in 1959.

          He rose through the ranks and became an associate professor in 1961, a full professor in 1964, and a named professor in 1977. He held the title until 2004 and continues to serve as a named professor there.

          Broecker is also a member of the university's Earth and Environm
